Anna Heringer’s new and different book “Form F

Anna Heringer’s new and different book “Form Follows Love”:

The Anandaloy Center for Disabilities, which began in 2017 and was awarded the 2020 OBEL AWARD, provides a wonderful example of the tone and depth of the entire publication. “The shape of the Anandaloy Center appears much freer than that of the buildings I had previously designed for Rudrapur, and its architecture explores the plastic abilities of mud much more. … I also learned to use a broader skill set, which lent me more creative freedom and confidence. This manifested in the organic shapes, for which the cob technique is best suited. And because a cob building doesn’t require any formwork, it doesn’t cost more to make curved walls! After all these years, discovering new forms and ways to manifest the beauty of earth still really excites me!”

The book, like Anna’s architecture and Ana herself, is fresh, thoughtful, grounded in solid knowledge, critical and uplifting. It is an inclusive book , offering valuable insights and inspiration for each of us who read it.

Anna Heringer’s new and different book “Form Follows Love”:
The 2020 OBEL AWARD winner, @anna.heringer1 @studioannaheringer , has just published a new book @birkhauser_books on her work. As characteristic of her approach to many things, this book is different. It is not a traditional monograph, where the architect answers standard questions and shows the same images and photos as already well-known. Heringer takes readers on a stimulating journey from her childhood through the challenges and joys of each project. It is a personal reflection on her life, the people who contributed to her in many ways, the projects and works she has undertaken, and her ideas about the world around her. The book is never bland, superficial, or preachy. It is always interesting and insightful. This is a must-read publication for architects, and all those involved in the built environment as well as lay people alike.

We are excited to continue our "Meet Our Fellows"

We are excited to continue our "Meet Our Fellows" series by introducing Nooshin Esmaeili, based in Calgary, Canada, where she earned a master's degree in architecture in 2011 and is currently a PhD candidate.
This year, Nooshin led an undergraduate studio course at the College of Science and Technology in Bhutan. Her course highlighted the crucial role of Bhutanese rural settlements in enhancing well-being through architecture. By integrating the built environment with natural surroundings, the course aimed to foster community spirit and promote sustainable living. Nooshin shares, "Many students previously thought architecture was just about form and function. They didn't realize how much the built environment affects the health and well-being of its occupants. I think raising this awareness is an incredibly valuable achievement for me!"

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our "Meet Our Fellows" series, where we will introduce the remarkable recipients of the 2023 OBEL AWARD Teaching Fellowships. These fellowships support innovative teaching in architecture, urban planning, landscape and all aspects of the built environment. They seek to foster collaboration and learning across academia and professional practice.
First up, meet Priscilla Namwanje:
Priscilla holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda, and a master’s from TU Delft. She has conducted impressive research, worked with various firms in Kampala, and was recognized as the 1st Prize winner of the Holcim Foundation Awards, Next Generation – Middle East & Africa. During her work as a Teaching Fellow at the International University of East Africa, she has contributed to a new approach to understanding African cities. "The course I directed not only promotes collaboration but also equips participants with the tools necessary for meaningful engagement with communities. I believe this approach can instigate a shift in architectural and urban planning education, fostering a culture of community-oriented practice," she explains.
